Simphony – Bertrand Lejoly for FontanaArte
A modular lighting system that combines serenity and flexibility

Simphony, designed by Bertrand Lejoly for FontanaArte and launched during Milan Design Week 2025, is a modular lighting system that adapts gracefully to its surroundings. It does not impose itself but fills the space with a soft, diffused glow. An internal ring reflects the light against the inner surface of the shade, spreading it gently and indirectly throughout the room.
Starting from a technical core – a circular LED with integrated driver – the system was designed to evolve in various directions, both functionally and aesthetically. Lejoly worked with materials such as mouth-blown glass, ceramic, and aluminum with a subtle horizontal texture that gives the metal a warm, almost handcrafted appearance. Each material alters the perception of the object and the quality of the light.
The suspension system plays a crucial role in the design. The cables provide not only structure and balance but also bring rhythm and visual order to the composition. Depending on the configuration – single, double, or triple – each setup creates a unique spatial effect. Simphony was conceived with calmness, proportion, and adaptability as guiding principles. Its language is inspired by the architecture of Dom Hans van der Laan, whose work took on new significance for Lejoly during a stay at the Sint-Benedictus Abbey.
“I wanted to design a lamp that doesn’t act as an object, but becomes part of the architecture. Symphony supports the space, without taking over.”
